Rest Day

Today is a Rest Day. There is no new Bible reading to do. Today, the goal is simple: rest in the presence of God. Maybe you need to use today to get caught up on the reading plan if you’re behind, maybe you want to journal what you’re learning so you don’t forget what God is teaching you, or maybe you want to spend time in concentrated prayer–do that. Above all, just spend time in God’s presence. Each Rest Day, we will also introduce a memory verse for the week. Meditate on this week’s verse and begin to memorize it.

Memory Verse

And God said to him, “I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants. The land I gave to Abraham and Isaac I also give to you, and I will give this land to your descendants after you.” Genesis 35:11-12, NIV

Memorization Tip

One way to help memorization take hold is not to just blindly say the words of the scripture you’re memorizing, but to take them to heart. Use the scripture as a prayer, meditate on the meaning, and instill the context of what’s happening in that verse into your heart. The more you are comfortable with what the scripture means and says, the more quickly you can memorize the words that it says.
