Rest Day

Today is a Rest Day. There is no new Bible reading to do. Today, the goal is simple: rest in the presence of God. Maybe you need to use today to get caught up on the reading plan if you’re behind, maybe you want to journal what you’re learning so you don’t forget what God is teaching you, or maybe you want to spend time in concentrated prayer–do that. Above all, just spend time in God’s presence. Each Rest Day, we will also introduce a memory verse for the week. Meditate on this week’s verse and begin to memorize it.

Memory Verse

16 When David finished saying this, Saul asked, “Is that your voice, David my son?” And he wept aloud. 17 “You are more righteous than I,” he said. “You have treated me well, but I have treated you badly.

1 Samuel 24:16-17

Memorization Tip

Use community as a tool to help you in your Scripture memorization journey! Pick a few friends, or your Life Group, with whom to memorize Scripture. Practice together, hold each other accountable, and encourage one another as you work together. Remember that the best way to stick with a challenge is to not go at it alone!

  1. I think it’s great, and it’s just how the Holy Spirit works, to take this First Book of Samuel to convict me and empower me to do what’s right. For He sees all of my circumstances and is offering His help and direction. I just need to heed it and trust that what He is saying is true above and beyond what I can do by my own fleshly means. For I want to be an overcomer not one who spends his life going in circles chasing his own tail. This is exhausting and disempowering to say the least.
Please continue to teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may leave a legacy that is inspiring to others! Teach me to put my pride aside and trust in Your Spirit and in Your Word. Renew my faith in You. Bless my family, Lord. In Your name I pray. Amen.
