Rest Day

Each Sunday is a Rest Day. There is no new Bible reading to do. Today, the goal is simple: rest in the presence of God. Maybe you need to use today to get caught up on the reading plan if you’re behind, maybe you want to journal what you’re learning so you don’t forget what God is teaching you, or maybe you want to spend time in concentrated prayer–do that. Above all, just spend time in God’s presence.

Each Rest Day, we will have an additional element to help you dig deeper. Sometimes it will be extra resources to further your study, a video to watch, or a podcast to listen to. Sometimes we’ll have a verse to commit to memorize to help you hide God’s Word in your heart.

Keep Digging

Refelction Guide

As you reflect on Proverbs 22-27 this week, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Which psalm resonated with you most this week? Why?
  • What did this week’s readings teach you about God?
  • What did this week’s reading teach you about humanity (and yourself)?

  1. Proverbs 24:16

This is what I have been focusing on this week; wisdom from the bottom of the In-N-Out French Fry tray!

“for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”

    Fall, rise again, repeat!

  2. I found it interesting how honey is referenced this past week in Proverbs.

In Chapter 24:13 we are told to eat it for it is good.

In Chapter 25:16 we are told to eat just enough of it or it will make us sick and in V17 we are told not to eat too much honey.

I think it is a great example how we can take something that is good we can misuse it to our own detriment.

  3. “If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength” (24:10).
Each time we engage with the word of God we make deposits in our hearts. The truth contained within these pages has been preserved for centuries that we would be fully equipped no matter what comes our way. When trouble comes knocking at our door, may we respond with boldness and great faith.

  4. 17 As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another

I’ve probably quoted this verse more than any other to my children and their friends. It is the people you surround yourself with that will determine the person you will be. Our friends can have great influence and provide advice for us. Be selective with whom you associate with. You will be rewarded with strong character and sound judgement.
